There's been an interesting article over the past few days on the BBC website by leading expert Mary King on how singers stay healthy. 

Two or three litres of water, no spicy food (that's a shame - one of our songs is about curries!), avoid caffeine - these are all part of her advice, as is the idea of 'vocal rest'. However, don't take that as an excuse for not doing any practice!
